I am fascinated by all things intercultural. I grew up in the U.S. — in the Pacific Northwest, to be exact. Which is probably why I identify with trees in my very first post. But I have since lived in several other countries and recently moved to Dubai. I do intercultural training and research as a profession, but also as a passion. It’s personal, as well as professional. When I am teaching others, I want to be able to say, “Do as I do, not just as I say.” (Rather than the old adage: Do as I say, not as I do.)
Purpose of This Blog
After my first four months of blogging, I’ve decided I need a purpose statement for this blog. So here it is. The purpose of this blog is to:
- stimulate thinking among interculturalists, and particularly among intercultural trainers and consultants
- provide good information on tools, theories, models and other resources
- add to the discussion on some of the ongoing questions of the field (such as, What do we do?)
Hiya Beth!
So very cool about what you’re doing….very similar to what Thomas and I have moved into.
Much love,
Wendy
Hi! we have a mutual friend, Sarah Albahsous, who has been telling me I need to meet you. Apparently we both have a personal and professional passion for intercultural competence among peoples! I’m on staff at Mosaic Church in Central Arkansas, USA. I do ICC training for our staff, our leaders, our volunteers, our congregation, other organizations in our community, etc. due to the multi-ethnic nature of our church.
I would love to stay in touch with you and learn more from you! Best wishes for your trip to Dubai. I am very jealous! Can’t wait to visit the Middle East very soon. I’m learning Arabic so I can fit better.
best wishes,
~Ines Velasquez-McBryde
Hi Beth,
Hope you are well. I think your blog is great! I wanted to reach out and tell you about a website that I am launching with cross-cultural & business information about every country in the world. We currently have information on 160+ countries with all the information being available for free. We are adding countries daily and plan on reaching the 200 mark in the next few months. As a professional in the field I am reaching out to others who may want to help contribute to this free resource.
I would also be interested in speaking with you about some CC training clients that I have who will need trainers based in Dubai in the near future.
Here is a link to the site. http://www.culturecrossing.net/
Thanks!

Dear Beth
A just and wise initiative as so many IC-consultants are around and quality is needed to move from ‘nice to have’ to ‘need to have’. Do you know the blog group ‘Interculturalinsights’ ? I will forward it.
