Dear Beth
A just and wise initiative as so many IC-consultants are around and quality is needed to move from 'nice to have' to 'need to have'. Do you know the blog group 'Interculturalinsights' ? I will forward it.

Hi Beth,

Hope you are well. I think your blog is great! I wanted to reach out and tell you about a website that I am launching with cross-cultural & business information about every country in the world. We currently have information on 160+ countries with all the information being available for free. We are adding countries daily and plan on reaching the 200 mark in the next few months. As a professional in the field I am reaching out to others who may want to help contribute to this free resource.

I would also be interested in speaking with you about some CC training clients that I have who will need trainers based in Dubai in the near future.

Here is a link to the site. http://www.culturecrossing.net/

Thanks!

I agree -- I think the similarities do come through. Although I wonder how much of that is done by choice of the editors. In the work I do I love something like this, but it also frustrates me because it's beautiful, but doesn't necessarily do justice to the complexity of cultures or human beings.

Hi, this is a great project! What a time to travel and interview all the people. It's strength is that it leaves you to draw your own conclusions... (mine that all emotions are very similar, though we very varying causes).

Good stuff, Beth. Using the VisualsSpeak ImageSet for strategic visioning is a great way to help people shed some light on what they want to accomplish and to get buy-in since everyone gets a voice in the conversation.

Love your header photograph. Wish I had taken it. Your blog has a nice clean look to it.

Good luck in Dubai!

Great story Beth. Sometimes I think VisualsSpeak is even more powerful with people who are very linear in their day to day lives, since it gives them the opportunity to communicate and connect in ways they don't on a regular basis. I love the magic that happens in the room. Glad you are experiencing it too!

Comment on Ignorance as a benefit? by MG

Ignorance of a culture in which one is immersed may be a benefit, but to a point. When one's "ignorance" does not lead to actual ignorance of people and their traditions. At such point, ignorance of any culture becomes hurtful and disrespectful to those who live there. Personally, I have witnessed more hurt and even evil from such ignorance than the positives. However, I can see both sides to this statement.

Re: foreigners and outsiders, I, too, prefer this distinction. Yet, I cannot overlook the fact that for some groups even being a foreigner brings negative tones. It depends whether one, just like you, belongs to a country which is a part of the "In group." Outside of the USA, there are only a few other countries that think of themselves as members ot the "In crowd." Hence, it is easier for them to have positive association with the word "foreigner." For others, the word still means that you are foreign to us and hence, you are outside of us.
